The IC655PER500 Operator Interface Unit (OIU) is a Series Five PLC OIU manufactured by GE Fanuc. It consists of
a display unit and a keypad and it is designed to provide a flexible and convenient interface for factory floor machine
operators and engineers in industrial plants. The IC655PER500 Operator Interface Unit is a compact and portable device
that ensures powerful operation, reliable I/O monitoring facilities, system fault diagnostic facilities, and visual indications
about different device conditions and status updates. In addition to the display, this OIU also has 3 LED indicators that
are the “RUN,” “OUT DIS,” and “STOP” LEDs. The OIU draws current from the power supply of the GE Series Five PLC’s
CPU and it consumes 400 milliamps of current.
The IC655PER500 Operator Interface Unit can be easily moved from place to place because of its compact and portable
features. This OIU can be directly connected to the CCM port connector of a GE Series Five PLC CPU. It allows the
users to easily access the data stored in the CPU. Some of the features of this OIU include an LCD screen, a contrast
adjustment screw, CPU mode LEDs, port connectors, a memory cartridge slot, an EPROM burner, and an RS-232
communication port. The IC655PER500 Operator Interface Unit comes with a keypad on the front for selecting different
functions. The functions can be activated by pressing keys or a combination of keys. The shift key of the keypad is yellow
and all the other keys are gray. It can perform a wide variety of industrial operations such as monitoring I/O references,
monitoring channelized I/O references, moving the cursor, changing display format, forcing I/O points, and setting and
resetting different functions.
